ESWC National Finals: Competition Updates

COUNTER-STRIKE

Team Hybrid managed to get their sweet revenge after losing to Team LZ in the ESWC Qualifiers held at Subang Parade early June 2008. The match went to a draw after an intense battle and Hybrid managed to score 4-2 against Team LZ during overtime.

WARCRAFT 3

In the Warcraft 3 tournament, despite the fact that eNet | Paulyan has recently switched focus on DotA, he is still undoubtedly the Champion by showing his off his winning streak in defeating M1-NOX in a Best of 3 match.

TRACKMANIA NATIONS FOREVER

The first Trackmania tournament held in Malaysia gathered top players from the racing game scene. Luige snatch the champion title with a perfect score of 120 points against 3 other finalist in the group.

DEFENSE OF THE ANCIENTS

The new map version change just weeks before the National Final didn’t affect the reigning champion KingSurf at all. They speedily defeated team Cybertime and will be representing Malaysia to the first ever International LAN DotA Tournament in the world, at San Jose, USA for the ESWC Grand Finals. Wish them luck! ESWC Live From Paris Bercy

Paris – June 30th, 2008. On Friday the 4th of July, the second edition of the Gaming-Show will begin in the Palais-Omnisports of Paris-Bercy in Paris. Open to all the video games enthusiasts, the Gaming-Show will host during three days two of the most prestigious e-sports tournaments. The ESWC French Finals, which will gather the 220 best French gamers who qualified through a set of offline qualifiers the past 9 months and the ESWC Masters that will invite in Paris the 350 best progamers worldwide for a breath-taking competition in Bercy’s arena. The winners of both these tournaments will fly to San Jose, California, for the Electronic Sports World Cup finals on the 25th, 26th and 27th of August.

Exceptional coverage for an exceptional event as the whole activities and matches played on Bercy’s main stage will be broadcasted live on internet thanks to an exclusive peer-2-peer video-streaming technology developed by Dyyno, a Californian start-up. The Paris Gaming Show is one of the largest European Festival dedicated to the Video Games and Electronic Sports competitions. Packed cyber-cafes with young teenagers filled in it. A typical Friday night away from the clubbing scenes during the weekends and you will find many intensely focused on the monitors of the computers. Look closer and you’ll notice some will express disappointment, while some others on the opposite end wear wide smirks on their faces. This is a typical scene on a weekend-night, and also the phenomenon known, as Pro-Gaming.

The packed environment full of spectators and players alike, full of emotions and competent tactical play, shouting and fast-hand speed clicking, just epitomes what the euphoria about gaming is all about. Playing games has never been this serious, and the stakes never that high. The reason is, professional gaming has taken the world by storm.

The amount of interest in this industry has been growing steadily for the past 2 decades, coinciding with the boom of personal computers. Gamers armed with their keyboard and mouse now make a living by doing what they do best and passionate about, which is playing games and with major sponsors like Intel, Samsung, NVIDIA and grand tournaments like the Electronic Sports World Cup and World Cyber Games, the pioneering of a bright star begins.

Things begin with the desire to play the game. Just like how people started playing the Nintendo and PlayStation, is just the same as how people start with playing games on the PC. The elements of competition, tactical plays, nerve control and desire to excel have made gaming such a popular craze among the youngster today. Usually, it starts with casual gaming among friends. Then this escalates to a point of being the best among your peers. Alliances are formed, and star-players are born. Hence, the competitiveness trait, which encourages major tournaments to be started in support of this growing spectator sport, which is now fondly known as e-Sports.
